Paper Shredder – Miniature Snowboarding Film

This is one of the coolest snowboarding films I’ve ever seen. It’s a cross between your standard snowboarding film and Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

A Stop Animation Snowboard Film

Created By: Paul & Stephen Gemignani
Music By: Grey Storia

One snowboard shredders adventure in an unusual setting.

The Filming Process:
We started with actual sequence photos of Paul riding (taken by his brother Stephen). Then we printed each frame of the sequences on paper and cut out the rider from each one, which we used to re-create the sequences with different backdrops, creating the stop animation effect used in the video – a very SLOW process. It was challenging at times, but it came together in the end. We hope you like the film.

ENJOY!

What to expect from hiking Angels Landing in Zion National Park

This video by Zach Friedbauer gives an excellent look into what it takes to hike Angels Landing in Zion National Park. Angels Landing is on the top of my to do list – it just looks incredible. Not only the views but with all the surrounding wildlife.

The trail to Angels Landing is 2.4 miles (3.9 km) long. It begins at the Grotto drop off point on the park’s shuttle system. It roughly follows the path of the Virgin River for some time, slowly gaining elevation in sandy terrain. As the trail gets steeper and leaves behind the river, it becomes paved. After a series of steep switchbacks, the trail goes through the area between Angels Landing and the Zion Canyon that is a gradual ascent. Walter’s Wiggles, a series of 21 steep switchbacks, are the last hurdle before Scout Lookout. Scout Lookout is generally the turnaround point for those who are unwilling to make the final summit push to the top of Angels Landing. The last half-mile of the trail is strenuous and littered with sharp drop offs and narrow paths. Chains to grip are provided for portions of the last half-mile to the top at 5,790 feet (1,760 m). Filmed and Edited by: Zach Friedbauer. Starring: Shane Stutzman. Filmed on a Canon DSLR.

Have you hiked this trail? What was your experience like?

In The High Country Film

This guy instantly reminded me of Forest Gump running across the country – except Gump wasn’t nearly as hardcore. Check out Anton running through the mountains in the upcoming film In The High Country

Anton Krupicka’s running has evolved from trails to mountains to free-soloing. Filmed over a season “In the High Country” — thin air, river baths, and itinerant mountain living. A new short film from the Wolpertinger coming Summer 2013.

Climb – By The Muir Project

Our eyes open to the same sun, a blaze with the hope of success and the promise of challenge. Our steps are focused. Delivered. Poised to overcome doubt.

The Muir Project’s collaboration with Project Yosemite to tease Colin Delehanty’s and Sheldon Neill’s second time-lapse video, “Yosemite HD II.”

Silence

Oh how many times have I felt like this …

Check out the latest film by Fitz Cahall and Duct Tape Then Beer.

The world is filled with noise. Make room for silence. Arc’teryx runner Adam Campbell stars in a story with no words. Shot on the streets of Vancouver and the high country around Whistler, Silence is the story of every runner, climber and skier who chases passion rather than the modern world’s trappings. Headphones recommended.

The Escape – Teaser Trailer

You don’t need to avoid the roads if your only ride is a mountain bike.

Let’s get one thing straight, this film is not really about us or our journey. It’s about the people and places that your mountain bike can show you.

Mountain biking is brilliant in its scope and variety; there is no right or wrong way to enjoy it. However, mountain biking, to us, is about adventure and exploration, fun and games, and understanding a little bit more about the world, the people around us, and in the long run, about ourselves.

On February 6, 2013, the Union crew set out from snowy Whistler to seek out some of the rumored snow free trails around BC. Their route took them on a circular journey around the Georgia Strait (or Salish Sea) between Vancouver’s lower mainland and Vancouver Island – where they found clusters of communities that elude the snow line all winter, leaving the ribbons of crafted dirt free for all to ride.

They rode mountain bikes the whole way, towing their kit in trailers for the long road stretches and then dumping them when the riding turned to dirt. Thirteen days and over 800 km later they closed the loop on their ride. Perhaps you already caught some of the story online (the-escape.ca) but in March 2013 Union Production Co. will be releasing a video of the trip. Here is the teaser to the grand presentation.

This video is about bringing the pleasure of the road and the thrill of the trails. We want to reach out to the rider who is told they are getting old but still feels young and who still gets recharged with youthful thrills. We want to reach out to the person working in a cubicle and reunite them with that long lost wanderlust. We want to show everyone that, yes, nothing is easy, but the rewards of seeking soothes all hardship.

More so, although the video’s backdrop is the backroads of British Columbia, we want to remind the world that adventure can be found on your own doorstep, you just need to get off the couch to seek it. Mountain biking shows us all somewhere new and personal, whether that’s at the end of a long road, a piece of remote singletrack, or the woods at the bottom of your own backyard.
This video is about celebrating the world, that as mountain bikers, we ride within. It is also about the communities and individuals that dare imagine, build and provide nourishment so that mountain biking can flourish.

Scary Fall Caught on GoPro Camera

Ice climber Mark Roberts feels lucky to be alive. Once you watch this video (not overly graphic by any means, just hard to watch) you’ll understand why. While climbing in the Snowdonia region of Wales, Mark fell down a chute over 100 feet. Never knocked unconscious and still have the foresight to check his GoPro camera after the fall finally stopped.

Homemade – A Mountain Biking Film

It’s been awhile since we showed some love to the mountain bikers. This video should help you forgive us.

At the doors of a mountain bike land, I enjoy each day as a mountain bike narrative. Every ride is a story about stuff, bike, trails and sun. This morning, the snow was on the track. My Hillbilly was waiting for playing. I had to test the new ” marshguard ” before writing about it for VeloVert magazine. My GoPro Hero 3 Black was on the track to share this ” Homemade ” movie. Enjoy !
