I am a sucker for a good timelapse – well, Finding Oregon isn’t just good … it’s great. Take a journey through the backcounty of Oregon, discovering the magnificent night sky along the way.

Finding Oregon is the compilation of six months of timelapse photography across the state of Oregon, punctuated by a 1600 mile road trip in September. We’ve filmed the Columbia River Gorge, Mt Hood, Mt Jefferson, the Southwestern Coast, the Alvord Desert, Leslie Gulch, Blue Mountains, Crater Lake, Eagle Cap Wilderness, Deschutes River, and more. I don’t need to explain the importance of having a good spotter while climbing / bouldering. Imagine if just for a split second the spotter was distracted by a bug or a car driving by – this climber could have been seriously injured.

I came across a very well done video this morning called “High Divide.” It follows Coleman Smith and a group of friends along the High Divide Trail in the Olympic National Park, Washington. Coleman, narrates the film – yet also has a Les Stroud filming style to him. I definitely enjoyed the story telling, filming and educaitonal interjections.
Check it out.

And it was here that I observed that no one was saying hello. No one was even making eye contact. This seemed all too unnatural and stuck with me.
Fast forward to …

It’s a bluebird day in Northern California – what do you do? Hit the mountain bike trails of course!

The peak of Hull Mountain sits 6876 feet above sea level, and over 5000 feet above the Lake Pillsbury Basin. We decided to drive to the peak and take various fall line, jeep, OHV, and singletrack trails down the entire mountain. We stopped several times to regroup. Total length of the run is 10 miles, and if you pinned it the entire way you could make it down in 30 minutes.
